There is More to Photography than P(Program) mode

Let’s face it everyone loves photography!

Friends and family constantly share with us how they have run out and bought the latest prosumer camera (not to be confused with full frame professional grade equipment that professionals use) place it on P (Program) mode, take a bunch of photos and are disappointed by the results. Why?

Well without getting too technical and discussing quality of light, manipulating lighting, composition and an artistic perspective that we have spent years perfecting, one must learn the basics of photography when using one of these prosumer SLR cameras otherwise it is wise to return to a basic point and shoot camera.

However to begin here is the triangle you need to consider when using any type of SLR camera: Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO and there is a reason it is referred to as a triangle. You will need to know how they effect each other and how to manipulate them to achieve the desired results in a given situation. Look them up, research them, do exercises with your camera (suggestions to come), buy a basics photo book and next week we will post more on the subject if you would like to check back.

Happy Learning! Artistic Soup Photography

Four Quality Items to Consider When Hiring a Wedding Photographer

There are FOUR Quality Areas to Consider when searching for a Wedding Photographer.

With Artistic Soup Photography you can be rest assured these areas are met and exceeded.

1. Education and Experience. A wedding can be a pleasant whirlwind experience for all involved.  A skilled and appropriately trained wedding photography professional should have the knowledge and experience to work quickly with whatever lighting conditions or scenarios they face.

2. Level of equipment. To be a professional wedding photographer it is required to have professional grade equipment and back up equipment of everything one will use.

3. High Quality Customer Service. As a dedicated wedding photography professional turnaround times are faster and customer service is focused and friendly because wedding photography is our profession and not a side hobby.

4. High Quality Product Offering.
There are many levels of albums and prints on the marketplace. Don’t you want the materials that will become a family heirloom? The lower grade albums and prints may look nice in the short term but over time will fall apart and fade. Ensure you are receiving the best quality materials for your special day.

Daumueller – Cook Wedding Album Highlights

Megan Daumueller and Todd Cook were married June 20th, 2009 at the Nineth Street Abbey in Soulard and took advantage before the nuptials to capture the special day with the lush Missouri Botanical Gardens as a backdrop.

Now that their special day has passed they have additional reasons to celebrate…. a home was built and a sweet new addition to come in May 2010…Congratulations!

Needles to say and understandably image selection for their album took a back seat until the holidays came around and they started thinking about the next phase of their lives as parents and the joy of their special day that got them there.

We are so overjoyed to hear the wonderful news and our excited to hand over their wedding album as they enter the next phase of their lives together.

Cottler – Haugh Album Highlights

Patrick Haugh and Emma Cottler were married July 19th of last year.  They had a beautiful ceremony at Washington University’s Graham Chapel and an elegant reception at the Westin Downtown.  This year they returned to Artistic Soup because they decided an album was a must.  They chose a traditional matte album to showcase the memories of their special day.  It was wonderful to work with this dynamic couple yet again.

Winter Wedding?….Fun Photos Indoor Location Options

Getting married in the Winter and wondering where to venture for those fun photos in between the wedding and reception, but don’t want to freeze? Here are just a few local options that are beautiful and toasty warm.

Ameristar Casino, St. Charles, MO: fountain, casino lights, modern furniture in hotel, unique textures on the floors and walls all offer great backdrops for fun photos.

Natural History Museum, St. Louis City: With a phone call before as long as they do not have a wedding themselves during Museum hours you are welcome to use the front and interior for fun photos.  Corinthian columns, old world stone, the historic Spirit of St. Louis airplane,  a balcony and a beautiful mosaic floor all work well for photography.

City Hall, Downtown St. Louis: With a call and a signing of a permit at least a week before the wedding day but recommend a month before, City Hall will allow you to use the facility for your special photos. The architecture is elegant, old world and regal including a grand marble staircase, an ornate ceiling and multiple balconies.

Would you like to share other options with brides? Feel free to add them to the comment section so all can see.
